For at least the past five years, I've been in a supervisory or mentorship role with Saanich's Summer Internship
Program. This program allows students to get hands on experience for 4 weeks in the summer and upon successful completion
we award a $500 honorarium. The heart of the program has always been recreation experience, gaining skills in a day camp setting,
working with kids. It is only recently we've branched into other departments: IT, Parks and now... the Planning Department

to the Get REAL Team... we won $1000 in the BC Green Games for the 5th year in a row!!
Guest: Carly Aspelend--Team Development Co-ordinater for the Canadian
Cancer Society's Fernwood Relay for Life.
I know Reynolds students are superstar fundraisers and the Relay would be an opportunity for them to become further involved
in the Cancer community .
The Relay is an overnight event happening May 25th - May 26th at Victoria High School. The
night will include celebrating survivors, remembering people lost to cancer and fighting back against the disease. We are
also putting a large focus on healthy lifestyles, so there will be fun games and activities all night long to incorporate
that theme. Interested students could make a team, do some fundraising, gain volunteer hours and be a part of an amazing event.

Opportunities:
"Hello
students!
My name
is Sara Mckinnon and I am 19 years old. I am a former student of Reynolds secondary, having been greatly involved in the sports
program, french immersion and leadership! I am now in my first year at Camosun College, studying to become an elementary school
teacher. I have a strong passion for youth driven development and the idea that every child should have the opportunity to
gain knowledge about sport and leadership in their community.
If you
are between the ages of 16-22 and enjoy sports, physical activity, youth driven development, leadership and community involvement
then ACTIVATE is the program for you and you should apply to become an ACTIVATOR!
ACTIVATE
is a national youth leadership program that holds a forum in Ottawa, taking place May 8-12, for youth all across Canada ages 16-22. The ACTIVATORS that attend will gain the knowledge and resources
of Youth Driven Development promoting a healthy, active lifestyle and leadership skills, which will have a positive contribution
on your school, community and organization. ACTIVATE is completely youth-driven and aims to instill confidence and qualities
in youth that will help them to better their leadership skills and to engage in their community. ACTIVATE brings together
young Canadians from various provinces in Canada to explore and develop their talents, skills and interests. The forum consists
of dynamic presentations, thoughtful and engaging workshops, and opportunities to network with
some of Canada’s biggest sport and physical activity organizations. Upon completing
the Forum, youth are certified as ACTIVATORS and return to their communities to initiate their ACTIVATE in Action projects.
They also become part of a large ACTIVATE network, connected through a dedicated online platform, social media, and local
groups. ACTIVATE
strongly believes that youth are the leaders of today, and not only
tomorrow. We like to give youth the keys, and then put them in the driver's seat; through our youth-led leadership forums,
youth are taught all the skills and given all the resources they need to improve the lives of youth in their communities through
sport and physical activity. We provide the spark, and youth drive the movement forward.
ACTIVATE IS A FAMILY.
ACTIVATE
is about discovery: discovering yourself, discovering others, and discovering the family you never knew you had. By attending
an ACTIVATE Forum and becoming an ACTIVATOR, youth become part of a country-wide family, with members that are there to mentor,
guide, and support each other.
ACTIVATE
is what you need it to be. If you interested but would like more information, visit our website http://www.motivatecanada.ca/en/activate
TO APPLY:
Go to www.motivatecanada.ca/activate/apply
The deadline for applications is MARCH
6th at 5:00pm EST
Also, check

Thank you
for taking the time to read this email and I hope that you now have an interest for ACTIVATE and becoming an ACTIVATOR!
Take care,

The Didi Society of Victoria would like to invite your Reynolds leadership group and/or
your school to participate in the 2013 Social Justice Youth Conference on Saturday, February 23d at Central Middle School
from 9am to 3pm. The conference aims to inspire youth to take action, and provide them the tools to take action in their
community and world. This event is an ideal opportunity for youth in grades 6-12 from all backgrounds and skill levels
to gain skills to take action on key social justice issues that are at the forefront of the globalized world. The Didi
Society has designed the morning for four workshops that are fun and challenge youth to take an active interest in social
justice. The topics are: Fair Trade, Gender and Globalization, Environmental Sustainability, and Children's Rights. The morning
will provide youth with the tools they need to take action to make positive change in their communities and in the world. The
afternoon will feature an informal session for sharing and networking among the groups that are already active in the community,
making positive change, followed by an interactive presentation on privilege and action. The Didi Society will provide
a short morning break with refreshments, as well as a light lunch. Registration is free, and we invite
individuals as well as groups to participate. Please see the attached registration form and distribute widely. The registration
forms should be returned to education@thedidisociety.org<mailto:education@thedidisociety.org>. We have limited numbers for this event, so ensure to get your applications in soon. Additionally, we are extending
a special invitation to those groups, like yours, that are already so active making positive change. We would like to acknowledge and showcase the work youth have already been doing. There will be an opportunity for
these groups to present a poster, short video, skit, photo exhibit, or other medium of what they have been doing to make positive
change in their community and world. Please complete the attached registration form for Group Presentation
and return to education@thedidisociety.org<mailto:education@thedidisociety.org>.
Please direct any questions regarding the event itself info@didisociety.org<mailto:info@didisociety.org>. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time! Sincerely, Julia Norman

money and collecting gently used soccer boots for girls in India. She goes to small villages and puts on soccer camps for
girls who never get the opportunity to play any sports.
Sr. Leadership students are invited to join the CSE students ot hear her speak on Nov 7th at 10am.
-CULTURE
CLUB guests... an exciting idea you could get involved in...
Hi Heather,
I wanted to touch with you about a Leadership project that I learned
about last year called Belle of the Ball. It’s an event put together
via corporate sponsors and donations so that girls who might not normally be able to afford the year-end prom can still go
to grad in full attire. Make-up artists and hair stylists volunteer to help get the girls ready. Formal prom wear comes via
donations. I don’t know the barriers some of the Reynold’s girls face, but I wanted to give you the idea to pass
along to leadership as a potential event.
Both Monique Sekhon’s
mom (Manji, cc’ed on this email) and I are Arbonne Consultants and would love to assist with make-up. We have other
Consultants on our team as well who would also be excited to do make-up. This was how one such event was handled: http://arbonnefoundation.org/belle-of-the-ball-march-24-2012/
I wanted to pass the
idea onto you while there is still lots of time in the year.
Cheers!
