Every graduating student in B.C. must create a Graduation Portfolio through grades 10 to12.  This is a student's chance to be more than just a set of marks when they leave high school.  Basically, it is an archive of work the student is proud of with reflection over time.  A portion is mandatory but a large amount is chosen by the student to reflect who he/she is and what his/her strengths are.  The grand finale is a sharing of the portfolio with a teacher, community member(s), family and friends to show the student's personal growth journey over 3 years and to look forward --> to his/her FUTURE.

YOUR PORTFOLIO…

         ELECTRONIC OR NOT…OR BOTH

         COLLECTION OF THINGS (EXPERIENCES) WHICH…

        YOU ARE PROUD OF and/or

REPRESENT YOU AND YOUR STRENGTHS and/or

REPRESENT STRETCHING TO LEARN NEW THINGS and/or

ARE EXPERIENCES YOU GAINED SOMETHING FROM

CAN BE THINGS FROM SCHOOL OR OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL

COLLECT EVIDENCE OF YOUR EXPERIENCES (CERTIFICATES, LOG SHEETS, CONFIRMATION SHEETS, COPIES OF PROJECTS, ASSIGNMENTS, AWARDS, PHOTOS, SCANNED ITEMS…)

REFLECT by answering…

What did you do?

Why is it important to you?

What did you learn?

How will this help you in the future?

How are your representing your strengths?

How are you stretching to develop something that is not a strength?

SELECT the best representation of YOU (according to the above) + YOUR TRANSITION PLAN…

SHARE with others by talking about your selection…

  • Power point
  • Website
  • Scrap book
  • Binder
  • Box of stuff
  • Video

STEP INTO YOUR FUTURE FEELING PREPARED and READY FOR A LIFE LONG JOURNEY OF LEARNING…

For this year, as a transition year to full implementation:

1)       Planning 10 is a course in the time table for all grade 10's with strong support given to starting a portfolio.

2)       Portfolio 11 is a non-credit course or support is given outside the time table to work on portfolio.

3)       Grade 10/11’s this year  (2006-07) will be expected to have a passing portfolio and presentation/sharing to graduate.

4)       For this year we are giving the option to grade 12’s to officially complete their portfolio and presentation/sharing and have a % grade on their transcripts OR to receive an SG (standing granted) on their transcripts if they choose not to complete their portfolio.  Both options will result in 4 credits.

5)       We are encouraging all grade 12 students to continute working on their portfolios with the intention of getting a percentage after completing their presentation.

6)   Those students who opt for SG will still be offered seminars to complete a Transition Plan for "life after high school"
