Service Learning connects school-based curriculum with the inherent caring and concern young people have for their world—whether on the school campus, at a local recycle depot, or in a distant community in Guatemala.  The results are memorable lifelong lessons for students and foster a stronger society for us all.  Service learning allows students to:

  • apply academic, social, and personal skills to improve community;
  • make decisions that have real, not hypothetical, results;
  • grow as individuals, gain respect from peers, and increase civic participation;
  • experience success no matter what their ability level;
  • gain a deeper understanding of themselves and, their community and society;
  • develop as leaders who take initiative, solve problems, work as a team, and demonstrate their abilities while and through helping others.

Service Learning is a corner stone of the Flexible Studies ~ Leadership in Learning Program at Reynolds Secondary.

 

What follows is a summary of your grade for the school year based on hours of participation and your reflection on your experiences.  Please note that service reflections by students will be maintained in Grade Files for Flex until a student graduates or leaves the school, at which time they will be returned to the student.  Students may access them at any time.  They are often requested for job, education programs or scholarship applications.
